A mixer (9) in the lowpressure line (12) leads a portion of the returning fuel over to the feed line (7) depending on the position of an adjustable guide element (18) in the mixer (9). The guide element switches over automatically as a function of fuel temperature in the lowpressure line (12) in response to a bimetal element adjuster (23). Viewed in the pumpwards (6) flow direction the mixer precedes a feedline (7) fuel filter. Only part of the flow from the injectors (3) is passed from the delivery line to the mixer (9) and the return line (8) runs straight from a highpressure pump (5) to the fuel tank (10) and is fitted out with an inlet point (11) for the fuel diverted by the mixer.
