Plant growth promoters containing a microorganism belonging to the genus Staphylococcus or a microorganism belonging to the genus Brevibacterium; and a method of promoting plant growth which comprises adding a microorganism belonging to the genus Staphylococcus or a microorganism belonging to the genus Brevibacterium to the soil. The plant growth promoters and the method of promoting plant growth as described above make it possible to grow plants in a stable state over a long period of time even in a poor bed soil inadequate for the growth of plants. Moreover, the problems of a high cost and unfavorable effects on the environment can be solved thereby.
