A mixing tap has four symmetrically disposed spherical members 1 la to 14a carried by a rocking plate 17 and co-operating with corresponding seats. At least three of these seats constitute flow ports obturated by the spherical members. The plate 17 is rocked by a balljointed handle 20 which has a dog 26 engaged in a cup-shaped hollow 27 in the plate. The hollow 27 has a central area 37-38, Fig. 4 (not shown), which is spherical about the centre of the ball joint and corresponds to a closed position of the valve, and an outer area which is a surface of revolution generated by an arc which gradually diverges from the said sphere in a direction toward the centre thereof and corresponds to open positions of the valve. The opening 25 for the handle is shaped in plan view as a cam surface with two lobes, Fig. 2 (not shown), so as to control the tilting of the plate.</p> |
