PURPOSE: Provided are raney copper, which is characterized in that it is doped with at least one metal from the group comprising iron and/or noble metal, a process for the production thereof and a process for dehydrogenating alcohols. CONSTITUTION: The raney copper which is doped with at least one metal from the group comprises iron and/or noble metals. The process for the production of the raney copper comprises: activating a copper/aluminium alloy by means of an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution; washing the catalyst, adding suspended in water, an iron salt or noble metal salt solution to the suspension; adjusting the pH value of the solution to a value from 4 to 11; and separating the catalyst from the solution and washed it.
