<p>A pigment dispersion usable as a pigment ink for ink-jet printers which has excellent storage stability and can ensure stable printing in ink-jet printers having a thinned nozzle and a head operating at a high frequency so as to attain high image quality and a high printing speed; and a process for producing the pigment dispersion. The process comprises a surface treatment step in which a self-dispersible pigment is prepared by introducing at least one kind of hydrophilic groups for imparting dispersibility onto the surface of a pigment directly and/or through polyvalent groups and a dispersion step in which the self-dispersible pigment obtained in the surface treatment step is dispersed in an aqueous medium, and is characterized in that the dispersion step comprises subjecting a mixture of the self-dispersible pigment, a wetting agent, and water to a dispersing treatment.</p> |
