The inking roll has uniform recesses in its jacket surface forming a grid. The recesses are covered with a hydrophobic coating (19), consisting of a silicon organic compound. The thickness (d) of the coating is small relative to the measurements (b, t) of a recess. If the grid spacing (r) is less than 0.1 mm, the coating thickness is less than two mu m.
