Device consists of a precisely machined measurement device (18) for determination of the angular orientation of a cylindrical element, such as a roller (10) mounted on a precisely machined axle (12) with a precisely machined forward surface (14). The measurement device includes laser gyroscopes for determination of angular orientation. The measurement device (18) can be fitted directly to the axle or using an intermediate mounting element. Use of two similar measuring devices on adjacent rollers with a light beam between the two enables alignment between the two rollers to be determined.
