As it moves relative the carriage (18) the carriage beam (14) displaces a driver (34) to move the arrester (20) towards its unlocked position. The drive acts on the Bowden (22) cable (28) directly connected to the arrester. Beam (14) and carriage (18) are hinged (16) together and the Bowden cable (28) runs over a pulley (30) mounted on the hinge axis (16). As it moves into its closed position the carriage beam (14) twists the pulley round (30) via driver unit (36,38), the cable (18) fixed positively to the pulley rim being held in place by the driver (34). When the door is fully open, the hook acting as arrester (20) is latched by spring force to locking bow (12). When the door closes, it disengages the Bowden cable from connectors arranged between door lock and door handle.
