The cylinder has a center drum (3) and two side stumps (4,5), one stump releasably fixed to the drum and supported via bearing (14) on the machine frame, the bearing (14) set removably in a frame recess (15). The stump (5) allotted to the bearing (14) can be disengaged from the drum (3) and the bearing is coupled to a hoistable carrying strap to allow the stump to be lifted out and moved away from the machine frame. The strap is fixed to the bearing (14) for removal from its recess (15) and the strap is movably taken by the hoist and equilibrized by a fitted balancing device (24) into a labile position so the bearing housing (14) fitted to it lifts and lowers in parallel throughout.
