PURPOSE: A surface light source is provided to obtain a surface light source for providing uniform brightness to a predetermined area. CONSTITUTION: A lower electrode(11) formed with a conductive material is formed on a lower insulating substrate(10). An insulating layer(12) is laminated on the lower electrode(11). A lower fluorescent layer(13) is formed on the insulating layer(12). An upper electrode(21) is formed an upper face of an upper substrate(20). An edge electrode(23) is formed on an edge portion of an upper face of the upper electrode(21). An upper fluorescent layer(22) is formed on a lower face of the upper substrate(20). A spacer(30) is formed between the upper fluorescent layer and the lower fluorescent layer(13). A sealant is formed along edges of the upper fluorescent layer and the lower fluorescent layer(13). An inert gas(50) is implanted into an airtight space through an injection tube(60).
