CIRCUIT BOARD STRADDLE MOUNTED CONNECTOR

PURPOSE: A circuit board straddle mounted connector is provided to obtain a new and improved electrical connector for straddle mounting at an edge of a circuit board having circuit traces on at least one side of the board near the edge. CONSTITUTION: An electric connector(10) that is mounted astride the edge of the circuit board, includes an insulating housing(12) that defines slot to receive the edge of the circuit plate. Terminals are installed in the insulating housing and these terminals include terminals connected to circuit trace on the circuit board. A flexible grip arm is formed with the insulating housing(12) as a unit on one side of the slot to be engaged to the circuit board by elasticity when the circuit board is inserted in the slot. A grounding tab adjoins the slot from a shielding plate(46) in a front fitting surface(14) of the electric connector and is extended through the insulating housing to be brought into contact with a grounding pad of the circuit board.
