SIDE AIR BAG CUSHION, MANUFACTURING METHOD AND FOLDING METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: A side air bag cushion is provided to protect passengers and to maximize the durability of a cushion by preventing the initial loss of inflator gas pressure with plural chambers formed by reinforcement fabric pads and coated fabric pads. CONSTITUTION: A side air bag cushion consists of a lower chamber and an upper chamber in a body. The body includes a first fabric(40) forming the upper chamber and a couple of second fabrics(50) forming the lower chamber. The first fabric is decided in thickness and density depending on the safety standard of a regular side air bag cushion. The first fabric is a part in contact with the face of a passenger and is not influenced by changes in gas pressure of the upper chamber. Thereby, the first fabric is made by fabric material having rare sewing process to reduce a shock applied to the head of the passenger. The second fabrics are a couple of symmetric fabric materials. The second fabrics form an inlet(51) having an enlarged diameter when the fabrics are sewn. The second fabrics are surface-treated by coating material including rubber and silicon to keep the surface airtight. A couple of reinforcement fabrics(60) are sheared to the outside of the second fabrics. The reinforcement fabrics have inclined side sections(62) smaller than the second fabrics to reduce the weight. The reinforcement fabrics are coated to keep the cushion airtight.
