PURPOSE: A method and a system for supporting multiple operating systems on the same disk running on different computers at the same time are provided to simultaneously execute plural operating systems from the same shared system resource on different computers. CONSTITUTION: A method for booting a plurality of operating systems on a plurality of processors from a shared system resource, the method comprising reading a master boot record from the shared system resource by a processor from the plurality of processors to determine the partition of an operating system from the plurality of operating systems to be used, reserving a portion of the shared system resource using a unique reservation key by the processor for accessing an operating system boot partition, and reserving a portion of the shared system resource using the unique reservation key by the processor for accessing an operating system partition.
