A low friction material of fine porosity consists of a sintered metal powder mixture comprising 5-40% of a powdered Pb-Te alloy containing 55-75% Pb and at least one other powdered metal having a melting point higher than that of the Pb-Te alloy, said powder mixture having been sintered at a temperature below the melting point of the Pb-Te alloy. The other metal may be iron or nickel and the Pb-Te alloy may contain up to 10% of Sn, Bi or Sb. The material, which may be applied as a powder and sintered to a backing material, may be used for bearings. |
