KOMPEITO-LIKE CARBON MATERIAL AND IT'S PREPARATION METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon material having a suitable shape to obtain various carbon material products effectively. SOLUTION: The carbon material is a Kompeito-like (a type of small candy made by crystallizing sugar around a poppy-seed core) carbon material which is obtained from mesophase pitch and which has a particulate carbonaceous material having two or more protrusions as high as the smallest particle diameter or less on the surface and which contains 0.1 wt.% or more of oxygen. The Kompeito-like carbon material is prepared by adding dropwise mesophase pitch in a solid or molten state to a preheated carbonaceous particle while stirring in a slightly oxidizing atmosphere.
