METHOD FOR PRODUCING BIPHENYLYLACETIC ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing biphenylylacetic acid having antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic action in a high yield simply on an industrial scale. SOLUTION: Vinylbiphenyl is treated with an oxidizing agent into biphenyloxirane, which is subjected to a rearrangement reaction into biphenylylacetaldehyde. Biphenylylacetaldehyde is oxidized into a biphenylyl acetic acid of general formula (4). Formed biphenyloxirane and biphenylylacetaldehyde are not isolated and can be used for the next reaction.
