PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical data recording medium capable of performing the recording and regeneration of data by light with a wavelength of 550 nm or less and having good recording and regeneration properties and a data recording method for higher density using the optical data recording medium. SOLUTION: A recording layer which contains a coloring matter compound represented by general formula (I) and capable of recording data by the irradiation with light with a wavelength of 550 nm or less is provided on a substrate and irradiated with light with a wavelength of 550 nm or less to record data. In general formula (I), Xs are each independently an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or N-R; R is an alkyl group, an aryl group or a heterocyclic group; Za's are each independently an atomic group necessary for completing a 5or 6-membered heterocyclic group; L1, L2 and L3 are each independently a substituted or non-substituted methine group (however, L1-L3 may be mutually bonded to form a ring when there is a substituent on L1-L3); j is 0 or 1; M1 is a charge equilibrating pair ion; m1 is a number of 0-10 necessary for neutralizing charge of a molecule. However, the heterocyclic group dose not constitute an indolenine nucleus when j is 1. |
