PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge preparation device for a steel plate capable of decreasing an installation space and performing an efficient edge cutting preparation. SOLUTION: This edge preparation device comprises a stock yard 1 of a work material, a stock yard 2 of a product, a conveying means A for hoisting and conveying the work material and the product, a first pedestal B for receiving the work material, a work position D provided out of a transfer range of the conveying means A, an inverse transferring means C for inversing and transferring the work material, a second pedestal E for receiving the work material, a clamp means F for clamping, back and forth, the center in the width direction of the work material, a pressing means H for pressing both ends of the work material in the width direction, a back and forth ruling means J abutting on the opposite side of the pressed end, right and left ruling means K abutting on the end in the width direction of the work material to set a cutter position, and edge preparation machines Ga, Gb for moving the cutter back and forth for the edge preparation.
