PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methacrylic polymer which has both a high heat resistant temperature and excellent resistance to thermal decomposition. SOLUTION: When a mixture of monomers comprising 95-99 wt.% of methyl methacrylate and 1-5 wt.% of alkyl acrylate is continuously polymerized by a full mixing type reactor in the presence of a polymerization initiator and a chain-transfer agent, the polymerization is set at a reaction temperature of 100-140 deg.C and average residence time of below 6 hours under the condition satisfying equation (1): wherein f: f factor (input appropriate values corresponding to types of polymerization initiators), A: concentration of radically polymerization initiator [mol/kg], B: concentration of chain-transfer agent [mil/kg], C: conversion rate of polymer [-], kd: decomposition rate constant of polymerization initiator at polymerizing temperature in reactor, andτ: average residence tome [min]. |
