PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the problem of the unstable guide of a tail wheel of a rotary tilling device of a walking-type tiller provided with the rotary tilling device under the rear part of the body of the tiller, an operation handle above the tilling device and an engine at the front part of the body caused by the reverse rotation of the wheel in the case of performing the backward tilling of a groove between the right and left ridges to cause the fear of the interference of the tail wheel with the rotary tilling tine. SOLUTION: Driving wheels 2, 2 are positioned at the right and left of the lower end of a transmission case 1 at the longitudinal center of the body, the rotary tilling device 4 is placed at the back of the transmission case 1, the engine 3 is placed near the transmission case 1 and a front hitch 6 is placed at the front end of a front frame. In the walking-type tiller having the above structure, a pair of right and left gauge wheels 7, 7 are attached to the front hitch 6 in a manner to enable free adjustment of the lateral width and the ground height and the backward tilling work keeping the side of the handle 8 at the head.
