PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform cleaning of a transfer cylinder only when the cleaning is substantially necessary. SOLUTION: In a stencil printing apparatus provided with a plate removing mechanism for removing an original paper of a screen plate mounted on a plate cylinder, a plate manufacturing mechanism wherein a new original paper is perforated based on an image information and the perforated original paper of the screen plate is mounted on the plate cylinder, a printing mechanism performing printing by transferring once an ink image from the original paper of the screen plate on a transfer cylinder rotating synchronously to the rotation of the plate cylinder and transferring again the transferred ink image on a printing paper, and a cleaning mechanism for cleaning the transfer cylinder, the plate removing and manufacturing actions based on the plate manufacturing mechanism and the plate removing mechanism consist of a plate removing action for removing the original paper of the screen plate mounted on the plate cylinder, an image perforating action for perforating a new original paper of the screen plate based on the image information and a plate mounting action for mounting the perforated original paper of the screen plate on the plate cylinder and cleaning action for the transfer cylinder by the cleaning mechanism is performed before the plate removing action.
