PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing 6-hydroxylutidinic acid from lutidinic acid by a safe and simple process at a normal temperature and pressure using a microorganism having an ability of efficiently forming 6-hydroxylutidinic acid from lutidinic acid. SOLUTION: This method comprises the steps of culturing a new microorganism (e.g. Rizobium sp. LA-17) that can grow using lutidinic acid as the sole carbon, nitrogen, and energy sources and can biotransform lutidinic acid into 6-hydroxylutidinic acid, contacting the obtained cells or a treated cells with lutidinic acid in an aqueous solvent for reaction, accumulating 6-hydroxylutionic acid in the reaction mixture, and collecting 6-hydroxylutidinic acid from the reaction mixture. |
