PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recognizing a control platform position in the formation as well as to provide a circuit for automatically recognizing the control platform position in the formation in a railway rolling stock. SOLUTION: This railway rollig stock having a brake setting unit, a master control key and an automatic releasing-joining switch, automatically recognizes positions of respective control platforms in the formation by a combination of these closing. A recognizing circuit of the control platform position in the formation in the railway rolling stock automatically recognizes the positions of the control platforms by respectively automatically exciting a front position recognizing coil 3 in a front position, an intermediate position recognizing coil 7 in an intermediate position and a rear position recognizing coil 8 in a rear position according to the positions of the control platforms in the formation by a combination of the existence of excitation of a brake coil 2 for detecting opening-closing of a key switch 1 for detecting closing of the master control key and a setting position of the brake setting unit, a connecting coil 5 for detecting an operation state of the automatic releasing-joining switch and a releasing coil 6.
