PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope which can facilitate the work to pass a curving operation wire into a slit (groove) of a front end curving barrel and allows mounting of the curving operation wire with a reduced occupying space into the curving barrel when fixed. SOLUTION: The slit 23 is formed at a cylindrical member 22 constituting the front end curving barrel 21. This slit 23 consists of a groove 23a along the circumferential direction of a cylindrical surface and a groove 23c which consists of its both ends 23b and extends backward in parallel to the axis of the cylinder. When passing the curving operation wire 7 through the slit 23, an operator is able to easily insert the curving operation wire 7 so as to rub its surface by utilizing the groove 23c. In addition, the arcuate part 7a of the curving operation wire 7 is fitted into the groove 23a and further, a straight part 7c returned from an end 7b is curved to an inner peripheral side at a small angle of inclination along the longitudinal direction of the groove 23c and is fixed to come into contact with the inner peripheral surface of the front end curving barrel 21 near the rear end of the groove 23c, by which the generation of the segment projecting to the inner peripheral surface when the straight part is acutely curved is prevented.
