LIGHT ABSORBENT AND ITS USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organic light absorbent which can realize a high densification in a heat distortion type optical recording medium. SOLUTION: This light absorbent contains either a hydrazone derivative represented by generic formula 1 (wherein ϕ1 and ϕ2 are each an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon or hetercyclic group) or a metal complex having the hydrazone derivative as the ligand. A recording medium is provided which uses the light absorbent and laser light of a wavelength of 450 nm or less as writing light.
