PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holder for holding a film capable of guiding the film by holding the lateral both end parts of the film and alternately folding up the front surface side to the rear surface side and vice versa and thus capable of reducing the size of a dryer and the like and a method of guiding the film using the holder. SOLUTION: This film holder comprises a pair of clip chains for guiding a film in longitudinal direction by the lateral both ends of the film, a plurality of clips having lower and upper claws on a clip chain moving centerline, a guide chain having an opening plate installed thereon to open the closed clips, and guide rail for moving a guide chain movement position closely to a clip chain movement position in a film holding area, opening the clips against a spring closing force by the opening plate, inserting the film between both claws, and re-separating the movement positions of both chains close to each other to close the clips.
