PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially preferable method of stereoselectively preparing phosphonic acid esters. SOLUTION: This method of preparing (1S,2S)-1,2-dihydroxypropylsulfonic acid ester comprises asymmetric dihydroxylation of (E)-propenylphosphonic acid ester expressed by the general formula (1) (wherein, R is a 1-10C alkyl, a benzyl or a phenyl) by using an improved type of AD-mix-αas a catalyst.
