PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively and industrially advantageously producing a useful oxygen-containing aliphatic compound such as an aldehyde compound and an alcohol compound by directly carbonylating an aliphatic hydrocarbon. SOLUTION: This method for producing the oxygen-containing aliphatic compound by reacting the aliphatic hydrocarbon compound with carbon monoxide comprises using a supercritical carbon dioxide or a liquefied carbon dioxide as a solvent and irradiating the raw materials with light in the presence of a transition metal complex having at least one phosphine compound as the ligand.
