PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure easy, speedy and efficient mounting of a counterweight to a crawler crane body and generate no increase in sizes and weight of crawler crane. SOLUTION: An A-frame 7 turned downward and inclined at a specified angle is supported with an auxiliary compression member support 27 fixed to a turning body 3. Then, an upper end of a piston rod 31a of a hydraulic cylinder 31 whose lower end is connected to a counterweight on the ground 10 is connected to a compression member 7b of the A-frame 7. Thereafter, the counterweight 10 is suspended by operating the piston rod 31a so that it may retreats, and while a counterweight support frame 4' is extended, the counterweight 10 is placed on the frame 4'.
