PURPOSE: An 1-aminoacetamidopyrrole, an 1-amino-2-(substituted)pyrrole, a related compounds and a pharmaceutical composition containing the same are provided to be useful for the enhancement of learning and memory and for the treatment of memory dysfunctions associated with neurodegenerative disorders as glycine partial agonists. CONSTITUTION: The 1-aminoacetamidopyrrole, 1-amino-2-(substituted)pyrrole and related compound are represented by the formula I, wherein R1 is hydrogen; R2 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy lower alkyl or acyloxy lower alkyl; R3 is hydrogen; or R2 and R3 taken together, form a cycloalkyl ring having 3 to 5 of carbon atoms; R4 is hydrogen; R5 is hydrogen, acyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl or aryl lower alkoxycarbonyl; X is hydrogen or halogen, each of m and n is independently 0 or 1, with the proviso that the sum of m and n does not exceed 5; p is 0 or 1; and when the dotted line between the pyrrole ring and the carbonyl group represents a bond, R6 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted phenyl, or heteroaryl.
