PURPOSE: A method for accessing color data is provided to access all color resources of high definition by compensating the insufficiency of color resource access data of low definition with a header of an OSD(On-Screen Display) and to easily control color resource access. CONSTITUTION: Color data of a color lookup table as an 8 bit index data(10) are accessed by supporting upper-level 4-bit index data(10b) on an OSD local header. A video processing unit performs OSD processing by referring to the OSD data of a memory with response to the command from a host. When a 4-bit color per a pixel is used for the OSD data displayed on a display unit via an encoder, 16 colors for 4-bit and 256 colors for 8 bits are supported. 16 colors are sufficient for color change for highlighting. For highlighting, the data access of a color lookup table for a 4 bit index are supported on 4-bit, 16 colors. Otherwise, 8-bit, 256 colors are supported by receiving 4 bits from the OSD header.
