The plasma-polymerized acetylene coatings described in the present invention provide superior adhesion characteristics between metals and various other substances, such as rubber, adhesives, paints and coatings. The structure and composition of the acetylene coatings are controlled to provide a metal surface having a high degree of unsaturation (i.e., acetylenic character) in the plasma polymer thereby providing a large number of reactive attachment sites to which other substances may bond. |
