PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device, capable of performing a high- luminance display, while suppressing power consumption. SOLUTION: In this plasma display device, after resetting discharge for making barrier charge to be formed in dielectric layers of all discharge cells in a plasma display panel are generated, the writing of pixel data is performed by generating selective erasing discharge for eliminating barrier charge formed in respective discharge cells, in accordance with pixel data corresponding to an input video signal and only discharge cells, in which the barrier charge remain are made to perform repetitive sustaining discharge by impressing alternatively a sustaining pulse, having a voltage value equal to or higher than 200 volts on respective row electrodes in row electrode pairs of the plasma display panel.
