PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an emergency vehicle to reach a destination in a short time by an automatic avoiding device which can secure a smooth travel of the emergency vehicle for a new traffic system, etc. SOLUTION: This automatic avoiding device for the emergency vehicle which stops up vehicles 13A and 13B traveling in an up lane 11 and down vehicles 14A and 14B traveling in a down lane 12 when the emergency vehicle 16 travels in the track 10 having the up lane 11 and down lane 12 has a process (step 12) for stopping, e.g. the up vehicles 13A and 13B traveling in one lane (e.g. up lane 11) at a vehicle-to-vehicle distance long enough for the emergency vehicle 16 to pass and a process (steps 14 and 15) for stopping the vehicles 14A and 14B traveling in the down lane 12 at a position where a passing path where the emergency vehicle 16 can pass is formed while a vehicle-to-vehicle distance is taken into account after the vehicles 13A and 13B in the up lane 11 stop.
