PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter for a capacitor induction motor for improving reliability of a motor body by reducing the cost of a starting capacitor. SOLUTION: In the starter of the capacitor induction motor 2, main winding 2a and an auxiliary winding 2b connected n series with a drive capacitor 3 are connected in parallel with a power source 1. A resistance component 5 is provided between a connecting point of the winding 2a to the capacitor 3 and one terminal of the power source 1. A starting capacitor 4 connected at its one end to a connecting point of the winding 2b to the capacitor 3 is provided. One terminal of the power source 1 is connected to the other end of the capacitor 4 when started, while one terminal of the power source 1 is switched when operated, and connected to a connecting point of the winding 2a to the capacitor 3. A relay 6 for short circuiting the component 5 is provided. In this case, a resistance component voltage sensor 7 is provided across the component 5. Thus, the relay 6 is switched when a detected voltage of the sensor 7 is lowered to a predetermined voltage after starting.
