PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video camera capable of utilizing the backlight of a liquid crystal display(LCD) device as a video light. SOLUTION: When using a fluorescent tube 14a of an LCD device 4a as a video light, a reflector 16 is turned by a turning means (not shown in the figure) for the reflector 16. Furthermore, a detecting switch for detecting the rotation of the reflector 16 is provided closely to the reflector 16, and when it is detected by this detecting switch that the reflector 16 is turned toward a window member 18, the voltage loaded to the fluorescent tube 14a is increased. Then, the illuminance of the fluorescent tube 14a is increased. Light, emitted from the fluorescent tube 14a, is guided efficiently to the window member 18 by the reflector 16 and transmitted through the window member 18 and an object is irradiated.
