PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for measuring the 'torsion' continuously on a production line with high accuracy in comparison with a conventional one. SOLUTION: A wide flange shape steel axially traveled on a roller table while keeping the H-attitude after the finish of rolling, and cut by a predetermined length, is transferred onto a transfer deck long in the direction vertical to the axis of the wide flange shape steel, an end part of the shape steel is overhung from the transfer deck by a distance of 1/10-less than 1/2 of the total length when the traveling direction is transferred to the direction vertical to the axis, heights of point lower faces of left and right flanges of the shape steel end part from a reference position are measured, and a torsional amount is determined on the basis of the measured values by using a following expression. N=((H1-H2)M)×L In the expression, N: torsional amount of shape steel, H1: distance of height of point lower face of left flange from reference position, H2: distance of height of point lower face of right flange from reference position, M: overhanging length of shape steel end part in measuring H1, H2, and L: total length of shape steel.
