PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time of rising and falling by using a motor for a rotary drum of low output so as to allow efficient image recording. SOLUTION: A main scanning motor is made larger in the output torque of an instantaneous use region than a continuous use region where output torque T is rated torque T0. This motor is so controlled that the output torque T attains the maximum output torque TMAX at the respective numbers N of revolutions when the revolutions of the main scanning motor are risen in order to rotate the rotary drum at the prescribed number of resolutions at which a printing plate is subjected to scanning exposure. As a result, the rising time (t) before the numbers N of revolutions of the main scanning motor attains the numbers N0 of revolutions is shortened and the scanning exposure of the printing plate may be efficiently executed.
