PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organism-associated substance-immobilized gel-retaining fiber alignment body thin piece improved in visual confirmability so that a defect of a gel or the like in manufacture can be easily detected, and the adhesion of bubbles or the deformation or falling of the gel in hybridization operation can be easily detected, and a detection method using it. SOLUTION: This organism-associated substance- and pigment-immobilized gel-retaining fiber alignment body thin piece can be obtained by cutting a fiber alignment body containing a bundle of fibers on which the gel having an organism-associated substance and a pigment immobilized thereon is retained in the direction crossing the fiber axis.
