PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time required for reading of an original image by starting first scanning processing, before the quantity of light from a light source is stabilized by reducing the amount of read data to be processed, after final scanning processing. SOLUTION: After the start of reading processing is instructed at a time T1, the first scanning processing of an optical system at a scanning speed v1 is performed before the quantity of light from a light source lamp 3 reaches a proper light quantity Ka and after the light source lamp 3 reaches the proper light quantity Ka after the lapse of prescribed time ta from the time T1, the second scanning processing of the optical system at a scanning speed v2 (v2<v1) is performed. After the read data of odd-numbered read lines at the time of first scanning processing are corrected, on the basis of the ratio of the quantity of light at each of read timing to the proper light quantity Ka and the ratio of the scanning speed v1 to the scanning speed v2, these data are combing with the read data of even-numbered read lines at the time of second scanning processing.
