PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize an electrode and a vacuum valve itself by increasing breaking current per area. SOLUTION: A pair of electrodes comprising a first electrode and a second electrode are settled in a vacuum container. The first electrode is made by joining a disk contact 1 with a hole around the center to an end of a cylinder of a conductive material, where the disk contact and the cylinder are coaxial. The other end of the cylinder is covered by a bottom part and a slit 3 having a predetermined angle to the center axis of the cylinder is made in the cylinder or the bottom part, at least the former. A piece of magnetic substance 4 is settled in the slit 3. The angle of the slit 3 to the center axis of the cylinder for the second electrode is approximately the supplementary angle to that for the first electrode and the piece of magnetic substance 4 is also settled in the slit 3 of the second electrode.
