PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift gear stage detecting device capable of maintaining the normal function of detecting the shift gear stage of a transmission even when one detecting element has trouble by using three detecting elements and capable of specifying the troubled detecting element. SOLUTION: In this shift gear stage detecting device, an N-switch 25 outputting specified periodic signals indicating the completion of a shift as a rod member 15 of an auxiliary transmission 10 is displaced from one of a high shift position and a low shift position to the other position, is combined with high-low switches 21, 22 outputting the high shift position and low shift position from the displaced rod member 15, and a judgment is made on whether the output change of the high switch 21 and low switch 22 and the output change of the N-switch coincide with output history in the normal state of the switches at least at two points. The gear stage position of the auxiliary transmission 9 is thereby detected normally while discriminating the failure of the respective switches 21, 22, 25.
