PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a cylinder resting internal combustion engine favorably holding exhaust gas characteristics when changing over from a partial cylinder operation to the whole cylinder operation by always securing the active state of catalyst for the cylinders cut off when partially operating the cylinders and to secure superior fuel consumption by possibly performing the partial cylinder operation. SOLUTION: This control device 1 for the cylinder resting internal combustion engine 3 changeable between the whole cylinder operation and the partial cylinder operation purifies exhaust gas from cylinders #1-#3 in the right bank 3R resting during the partial cylinder operation and cylinders #4-#6 in the left bank 3L by catalyst device 11R, 11L of mutually independent two exhaust pipes 10R and 10L. This control device 1 estimates an estimate catalyst temperature TCT of the catalyst device 11R for the right bank 3R (step 6) and prohibits the partial cylinder operation when the estimate catalyst temperature TCT is lower tan a prescribed temperature TCTCYS (judgment result of Step 34 is NO).
