PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a format having compatibility with a computer file by which not only a bit stream encoded in compliance with the MPEG-2 standards but also other bit stream can be transmitted, recorded and processed as the computer file. SOLUTION: Each of system, picture, audio and auxiliary items in a signal format having one or a plurality of items among at least the system, picture, audio and auxiliary items has a prescribed byte number and a label including at least one byte to identify the item, a work count denoting the number of bytes of the item data and the item data. A start code and an end code in a serial data interface signal are eliminated and the label is added in place of the start code. This label is preferably an SMPTE conventional label. |
