PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video signal processing unit that can reduce deterioration in the image quality due to a noise on a synchronizing signal in a luminance signal. SOLUTION: A frequency descrimination section outputs a 1st error signal when a ratio of a frequency of a reference frequency signal to a frequency of a frequency modulation wave for a synchronizing signal period is lower than prescribed, or a 2nd error signal when higher. A frequency control section controls a frequency modulator so as to increase the frequency of the frequency modulation wave when the 1st error signal is received for a prescribed number of times or over for a period until the 2nd error signal is received or so as to decrease the frequency of the frequency modulation wave when the 2nd error signal is received for a prescribed number of times or over for a period until the 1st error signal is received.
