PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scroll type compressor capable of minimizing a clearance of a compression part between a lap tip and a lap bottom surface that results from deformation of the compression part due to thermal expansion and gas pressure in operation, by providing stepped parts such that parts between respective winding start parts and respective intermediate parts of laps are lower in height than parts between the respective intermediate parts and respective winding end parts of the laps. SOLUTION: This scroll type compressor has a fixed scroll 3 fixed in a sealed container and having the erected spiral lap 3b provided to an end plate 3a, and a revolving scroll 4 having the erected spiral lap 4b similarly provided to an end plate 4a. The lap 4b is engaged with and eccentrically opposed to the lap 3b of the fixed scroll 3, and gas is compressed by relative motions of the scrolls 3, 4 so that capacity is reduced with motion toward the center of the scrolls. The parts between the respective winding start parts 3T1, 4T1 and the respective intermediate parts 3T2, 4T2 of the laps 3b, 4b are the stepped parts 3D, 4D with the heights 3H1, 4H1 lower than the respective heights 3H2, 4H2 of the parts between the respective intermediate parts 3T2, 4T2 and the respective winding end parts 3T4, 4T4 of the laps.
