PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having a smooth magnetic layer high in charging properties and high in durability. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium formed by applying a magnetic material prepared by dispersing ferromagnetic powder in a binder on a non- magnetic substrate is characterized in that the binder component contains polyurethane resin consisting of polyester diol as a main raw material, in which 50 mol% or more of all acid component is alicyclic dibasic acid and 50 mol% or more of all glycol component is alicyclic glycol.
