<p>Alkanedioic acids are prepared by oxidizing a feed comprising a cycloalkanone or cycloalkanol (the ring being at least C8), with 60-80 wt. per cent HNO3 in presence of an HNO3 oxidation catalyst at 35-100 DEG C., the feed: HNO3 mole ratio being 1:2-30, the feed being added incrementally to the HNO3. Examples describe the production of suberic, sebacic and dodecanedioic acids, as the main products, from cyclooctane, cyclodecane and cyclododecane, respectively.</p> |
