The invention relates to a terminal for an insulated conductor (26), comprising a contact element (26) extending through the insulation of the conductor (26), and a looped tension spring (21, 22) having a first limb (21a, 22a) which is provided with a window (23, 24) for a conductor (26) that is to be connected in addition to a second limb (21b, 22b) which is elastically connected to the first limb (21a, 22a) and which elastically presses the contact element (29) into the insulation of the conductor which is introduced through the window (23,24). The window (23,24) has a lower clamping edge (27,28) supporting the part of the conductor lying opposite the contact element. According to the invention, means are provided for embodiment of at least one other clamping edge. When a conductor is introduced, it comes to rest on the clamping edges. The contact element (29) is arranged in such a way that it makes contact with the core (30) of the conductor in a region which is defined by the clamping edges (27,28) or, in the case of more than two clamping edges, which is defined by the outer clamping edges.
