A range section (A) is defined within the full displacement range of the accelerator pedal (from P1 to P2). The section can be selected by the driver, who is provided with haptic (e.g. pedal vibration), visual or audible feedback, and a drive system operating state corresponding to this range section is activated. The range section may be an angle range from the rest position (P1) of the accelerator pedal. An operating state minimizing fuel consumption, or a certain acceleration or deceleration may be associated with the range section.
